Building my First Head

8 Apr 2019, 11:13 am
Last night, I started the foaming process for my character Kiko. This is my first time building any part of a fursuit, but I hope to eventually make a full suit of this character. For now, here are some pictures of the building process. Next up is adding the fur!

There is on way in HELL this is your first head. Where are those other projects you've been hiding?
I think it has a great structure, and an adorable face shape. The structure looks solid, and it definitely looks like you've done your research.

That out of the way, I have to say something here even though people have said it 373476436463749 times.

Please don't use foamies or paper for the scleras. They're flimsy, and get moisty and floppy, and they get all dent and crap.

That being said, this is amazing for a first. Good luck!

(Please give us updates when you start adding fur or finish!)

KaidaCresto TheGreyNightengale Thank you!

CallistoCorona Thank you so much!! I haven't worked on him more than this really (i'm holding off on buying fur), but the paper is just there for now so I could get a sense of what I'm looking for in terms of eye shape/look. I will most likely use buckram for the eyes. I will definitely keep people updated once I start getting fur!

I would absolutely NOT recommend what the above said (then again, I'm yet to make my first head). I'm no expert, but what I've seen from my research is you absolutely should sew your fur together, else what I imagine what would happen is that the foam will show through the fur really easily, and it'll probably cut down on the lifespan of your head a lot.

Anyway, that being said, I think this looks really cool and so cute! If you've got a pinglist for updates and such, could you put me on it please?

Dogstar milkyplays I am pretty familiar with a sewing machine and hand sewing, so I have every intention of sewing the fur together one I get it. His nose is actually purple, so I think I'll either be using purple fleece or minky. I don't really like the look felt gives. Thanks for the advice and compliments! Would you be interested in updates for the other heads I have started working on since?

KaidaCresto TheGreyNightengale CallistoCorona milkyplays Dogstar Not much has changed progress-wise for Kiko's head since I last posted. I ended up bulking it up a little in hopes of giving more definition arund the eyes and mouth and it is still in the creepy duct tape template phase 5JeRCIg.png. I'm hoping to get him some fur around Thanksgiving (fingers crossed for cyber monday sales).

Since then, I have started work on another head. Unfortunately I don't have any progress pictures, but here it is waiting for me to finish with the duct tape and buy it some fur. This one is a ghost themed cat. 5dcYqHC.png

Looks amazing. I been thinking of doing this myself I just need to save up money. I only fear I'd mess up badly on molding the head to look like an animal, knowing myself well. but I've watch so much tutors. a fursuit is something I dream of having someday and paying for one is so expensive.

Alewolf I totally understand. I looked up a lot of information before starting these and honestly it wasn’t too bad to shape them just a little time consuming. I actually just bought myself my first mini partial and I was super excited, but it’ll definitely be rewarding for me to see these guys when i’m finished.
