So I was just swinging, trying to finish some commissions, when as usual my girl Blixie came over, meowing up a storm. She never stops chatting, whether because she's hungry or just wants nonstop attention. I was petting her as gently as I could and she about fell over. Since she was born she has been very skinny, to where I always thought she was starving. Whenever I feed her, she'll eat her fill then go groom herself somewhere.
She also is always sneezing and sniffling. She can't have had a cold her whole life, could she? We recently had a bout of sickness go through my kitties. Most kitties got a bit hungrier, but I can feel all of Blixie's bones when I pet her and she about falls over at any pressure. The BREEZE moves her. We just got enough money to fix the kitties, but they are all inbred. I have alot of kitties with mutations, some are actually kind of.. Cute. So I was wondering why she is like this and if there is anything I can do to help her. Anybody know what's wrong with my talkative girl?

ApocalypticPets Poor sweet baby... I love tortiecats...

First off: It looks like she's outside... Is she an outside cat? She could easily have an intestinal parasite or be anemic from various outdoor pests. I'd suggest taking her to a vet where they can do fecal and bloodwork to check for said parasites.

In the mean time, what are you feeding her? If she's having trouble putting on weight, I'd suggest kitten formula kibble. Maybe even a little bit of whole milk out of desperation.

If she's a sweetie and she'll let you, you should try lifting her lips up to look at her gums. See if they're pale at all.

Cats are prone to respiratory issues, especially when inbred, but if there's no drainage from her eyes or nose, I'd be a little less set on an infection and more worried about a virus.

Honestly, if I hadn't read the post, she LOOKS like a pretty healthy young little kitty. Some just don't put on as much weight as others... but given you know her, she should definitely get checked out.

---

When I was living with my parents, we had a stray cat that'd come around. He was sweet, but very feral- wouldn't let you pick him up without trying to maul you nomatter who you were. And for most of the time we knew him, he was always sneezing and sniffling, but without any drainage.. One spring, he came around sneezing up green nastiness and a little blood. We ended up having to use a trap to catch him and bring him to the vet. Turns out he had bad allergies that just degraded to a respiratory infection that needed antibiotics.

Might not be relevant, but figured I'd mention it.

InfernalFelidae
Yup, all 15 of em are. I'd gladly take them all in everytime They're sick, but my family can't afford it and I don't have a job yet. They get parasites all the time, but we do have medicine for it. Blixie is my only kitty like this. I believe we get regular Kit n Kaboodle food.

Fair enough~ 15 cats is alot.

If you're in a region where you're able to, you might take some into a no-kill shelter while they're still young and cute and easily adoptable; Give them a chance at a foreverhome where they can get proper preventative medical care and won't inbreed more. There are usually some free spay/neuter options for 'catch and release' strays that you could look into as well.

I would still suggest a more nutritious diet and a vet visit for Blixie. Try to keep her indoors so she doesn't get worse. You can supplement her diet with raw meat, (no salt added)broth, a bit of milk/cream (not a staple, as some cats are lactose intolerant, but can be good for putting on weight and fluids when they're finicky)... or maybe just try a different brand or formula of the dry. I personally feed my two finicky adult indoor kitkats Luvsome (kroger) brand's sensitive systems formula and the fatty/bloody bits of chicken I cut up for dinner. Most mid-range namebrand kibbles I've tried just make them sick tbh.

Hello!
I do not have any sort of 100% correct answer but I had a cat who had a breathing issue we thought it may be a lung issue (it could have been imbreeding problem... we do not know these cats were dropped off on our yard....) but that sneeziing issue was passed on to the kittens...

We had the same problem back a few summers back we had like 20 cats ooof so I kinda learned as i went with kitties OwO

Pretty kitty. but if she's sneezing a lot and not having a cold I'd suggest asking a vet, Could be many reasons behind it, could mean a infection, allergic to something, and other things such as imbreeding problem like what britt said, and like what Felidae stated could try kitten food to see if the cat will eat that and gain some wight .

For the skinnyness it could be a thyroid issue. My SO's cat has a thyroid problem where she barely eats and is always skinny. Always very talkative as well. Don't know your cat's specific habits, but I hope it can get sorted out soon.

Please let me know about all insect/arachnid adoptables <3

She probably needs antibiotics and allergy medicine I'm not an expert but almost every single time I've gone to the vet for kitty sniffles they had me buy some super expensive doctor guaranteed stuff they have and charge you $100 bucks for the checkup. Just go to your local animal feed store and/or go online an buy some antibiotics and allergy medicine preferably the stuff you mix in there food unless you know how to give shots. If it doesn't clear up in the first 2 weeks then go to the vet (if it's affordable, if not try changing what your cat is getting into aka the allergen) as it may really be a respiratory disease or virus and not a simple infection.

For the eating and weight problems, what seems to be thyroid problems but I don't really know what it is, you may have to pay a pretty penny for Methimazole (anti-thyroid hormone medicine) but it has some pretty crappy side effects or to get your cat's thyroid removed if her thyroid is really hyperactive.

Edit: We had a cat who lived with her allergies for 13+ years her name was Ms.Kitty (xD ik so original) and she liked to sharpen her claws on an old 2 x 4 the grooves were so deep from all the years she used it was at least half an inch probably more she was really skinny but she was fine otherwise she did fall over a lot (when being petted, stiff breezes, or bumped into) and she acted like a kitten very vocal and liked to knead when she was petted but everyone loved her despite her massive shedding problem like your kitty she was tortoiseshell (Coloring) she was mixed breed just like your kitty my brother owns one just like it, she also has the same problems but idk what my brother does for his cat.

Woooo.. Hope it's not thyroid, yikes. Anyway, thanks everybody for the help. I'll see what we can do. I think Blixie says thank you too. It's hard to tell. She meowed for the last 20 minutes until she lost her voice temporarily again... Crazy kitty.
