Do you speak other languages?

2 Oct 2017, 9:10 am (Edited 2 Oct 2017, 11:55 pm)
Basically a topic talking about our native languages (which 95% of us are native to English) and other languages that we know/we're learning rn.
My current languages:
Major:
*American-English (+Michigander language) (native)
*German (2nd year)
Minor:
*French (a few words, thanks to TFM)
*Finnish (few words, thanks to science class)
*Spanish (few words, thanks to 3rd grade).

You don't need to speak the language (which is considerably against the rules), but... xD

English, Turkish, Arabic. Arabic is my native, but I'm kinda rusty now because i haven't spoken it in a while after moving to america. I speak turkish fluently because i have to speak with it around my family, and I'm very good (at least i think im good) at writing in english, and im almost fluent with speaking with it too. (Furvilla has been a big help with my english ill have to admit.) I'm pretty much fine tuned on all 3.

Dutch is my native language, I speak english (and I'd like to think I'm pretty ok at it) and I'm currently learning:

- French: (Mika aaah) I can read pretty well but I suck at actually understanding the words when someone is talking.
- Japanese: I know katakana and hiragana, some basic words/sentences and a little bit of grammar
- Spanish: (not really interested but school is forcing me, same goes for ancient greek & latin but idk if I should count that bc they're dead languages) I can have conversations about school, holidays, hobbies and I can ask for directions.

Glad to see other Deutsch speakers!
Another question.
If you do speak another language, how hard is it?
German is pretty easy if you speak English.

If you do speak another language, how hard is it?

I tend to have a hard time with expressing myself in general but portuguese is a bit complex and if your language doesn't have Latin roots you'll probably have a hard time learning!! LIBRAS on the other hand is very simple and easy to learn, but it needs lots of practice!!!

Lights off!

Like I mention above, German is one of the easier languages for English speakers, since it's literally taken from our language and some words are very closely related or the same! (Chocolate = Schocolade, October = Oktober, Winter = Winter)

From my mother I speak Hungarian (a very old language) and from my father I speak Bosnian.
I learned Swedish from TV and also because I live here lol
When it comes to English, I am self-taught but I also learned a lot from swearing youtubers!
I've been speaking English ever since I was 6-7 and a half years old, so i've probably spoken it in 11 and a half years?
