Taleif is a cold and pessimistic drake, harsh and almost always angry for one reason or another. He is very stubborn and short-tempered, and will snap at the slightest provocation. He is very antisocial and will growl at anyone who gets too close, preferring to stay alone in his isolation. Really the only one he gets along with is his brother Kuro, but tends to be rather awkward around the starry drake. Deep down he truly does want the friendships and love he used to have, but he refuses to let anyone in in order to do so. It’s kind of like his own way to punish himself for his past wrongs. He wasn’t always cold and distant like this however. He developed ice magic when he was very young, and for the longest time was delighted by his abilities. He loved to play and experiment, creating small flurries of snow to mess around with. But as he grew, his powers strengthened. He started training and battling the monsters around his village, becoming a strong warrior. One day, the inhabitants of his village decided to choose a leader. To Taleif’s dismay however, it was not he who got the role, but his brother, Kuro. After all his hard work to help his village, they had chosen his brother over him…
Angry, jealous and hurt, Kuro lost himself in a blaze of emotion. His powers exploding around him, the dragon cursed the village into an eternal snowstorm. When he came back to his senses and saw what he had done, he ran away. After a long while of being away, he eventually returned to the village. He now lives in a small corner of the frozen place, hidden from the rest of the villagers.
Taleif had thought about coming back for a long time. It was the fear that kept him away. He could have done much worse things when his brother was chosen for mayor above him - however still, he was afraid.
On the walk back home, he thought about his brother, Kuro. They had gotten along well when they were young, playing with his ice powers. What great fun they had! Taleif was nostalgic for those days when he was young, and nothing mattered. Aurborage, making snow, all of those things. When life was simple, and happiness was plentiful.
Then he had to go and ruin it; the citizens of Aurborage decided to choose a leader and simply liked Kuro better. Taleif shook his head as he saw the borders of Aurborage come into view. He was acting so foolish, and he didn't remember why.
He expected not to be allowed in, but he wandered the streets to the mayor's office, new snow crunching underneath his weight. With a deep breath, he opened the door, imagining guards would swoop in and carry him away. Not a soul in the building cared.
Right into Kuro's office, knocking softly on the door and waiting to hear the cheerful "Come in!" before entering. He knew Kuro would be surprised, and he was, though he wasn't expecting him to stand up so swiftly with a beaming smile. "Taleif!"
"Hello, Kuro." Taleif said, quieter and sadder than he was hoping.
"Welcome home!" He practically leaped over his desk. Kuro hugged his taller brother with revalidating strength. "I've missed you! Where did you go?"
"A-away." Taleif shuffled a bit, wondering if this was a good idea.
"No matter." Kuro chuckled. "It's great to have you back."
"You aren't angry with me?" Taleif blinked away tears. "I'm so sorry."
"Angry? Sorry? For what?" There were a few confused blinks before Taleif sighed.
"For freezing the town and disappearing on you like that."
Another few chuckles. "Oh, no worries! You're back now; that's all I'm concerned about."
