Tom is the leader of a village of escaped magical experiments.
He is an afghan hound.
Through touch and eye contact Tom can change the feelings of a person, to make them more open to what he says, calm them down, etc. If he applies his magic too much it can become overwhelming, which he has had problems with, so he's very careful.
The laboratory he was in tattooed him with hearts so they knew what he could do.
He escaped his lab with Silverminte, the bat, who can control insects, including seeing through their eyes.
They soon met up with Roiben, who is a possum who was spliced with rabbit parts. He can control small corpses.
They then met "the twins" Webb and Ashmer. They were one person with split personalities who were separated. When together they can draw things in the air that come to life, and they can talk to each other in their minds.
Last they found Capri, Akeme, and their child Sein. Capri can control balls of dark matter that he can use as a weapon or to spy. Akeme has wings. Their genetics were used to make Sein, so when they escaped from the lab they took him with. Sein has wings but can't fly yet. But he is young, so who knows what he'll be able to do in the future?
