About
Berani is a actual tiger I used to work with until he died in 2015. This character is in memory of him.
Berani was a male Sumatran tiger born in 2000 at Perth zoo (Australia). He was transferred over to the zoo I work at (that I wont name) in 2003. He was a teen back then. He was still learning and I wasn't a Zookeeper back then, but I still was there the first day he came out of his den. He was a beautiful handsome tiger who I hoped I could work with one day.
Bam! next thing I knew I was working as a Zookeeper, and guess what animal I worked with first. As the years blew by I formed a "bond" with Berani, he was like a child to me. I didn't work full time, I more like volunteered but the big cats always had a place in my heart, especially Berani.
He was a big boy now and his species needed saving so we got him a mate. Rahni was her name, she was a lot younger than Berani and a lot more aggressive than Berani. At one point I was worried for Berani's safety. They had mingled a few times but Berani was 'inexperienced' and never really had the chance to bred with Rahni.
That day I wasn't expecting came, the day I didn't want to come, the day I had been dreading. Berani was found in his den by another one of his keepers, the one that had worked with him the most, the day had came and Berani had flown up to heaven.
Berani was 15, a oldish age for a tiger in captivity. He had passed away from suspected liver failure, a common form of death found in a lot of tigers his age.
