Ylva was born into her family's pack, so she grew up her whole life around wolves. Separated from the rest of civilization, Ylva never saw a person of another species in her childhood. The pack was big, and Ylva had many brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins. The leader of the pack being the eldest wolf- her great grandfather.
Ylva was observed as being abnormal since birth. She was noticeably more endurant than her peers and had a much higher pain tolerance than any of the wolves had ever seen. A cut or scratch would send most pups crying to their mothers, but Ylva explained to her elders when asked that she felt no pain, and she never winced at the sight of blood or gore, not even her own. This caused great concern with the adult wolves, who worried that a lack of any pain could make Ylva unaware of severe injuries and cause her to not get treatment to a wound and die.
But this was proven wrong later when Ylva was attacked by a forest creature. She was badly wounded, and she did feel pain, but miraculously she survived, and any regular wolf would not have been able to live with the wounds that were inflicted on her. It was decided that Ylva was gifted, and destined to become a warrior.
When Ylva became of age, tragedy struck her clan. A terrible disease spread rampant through the clan. It was highly contagious and there was no escape from the sickness. Even the doctors could not fight against it, and the pack worried that seeking help from other doctors would spread the disease to other villagers, so they decided that the disease will die within their pack.
Ylva, with her physical endurance, was immune to the disease, and was the sole survivor.
With a new life ahead of her, she left home and wandered. She explored for days until she came across another wanderer, a deer named Takeshi who had amnesia and no memories of his past life. They decided that they could be useful to each other and formed a team to help each other survive. Now, they are the founders of a new village.
