Villager: Taisha

Taisha's mother died of illness before his second birthday, leaving the young child to be raised by his barbaric warlord father, Dalish. Dalish had been a hard man to begin with— edges only tempered by Shar's gentleness— but the loss of his mate froze his heart and kicked off his mental unraveling. From an early age Dal drove Taisha mercilessly, insisting on perfection. Tai pushed himself to the absolute limits of physical and mental endurance as he attempted to master everything his father threw at him: swordplay, strategy, hand-to-hand combat, politics, literature, philosophy...but nothing was good enough for Dal and the abuse piled on and on as his sanity slipped further. Taisha endured, and when the chance to escape came, he took it, and he took his only friend, a soldier's brat named Dundara, with him.

The pair of them traveled the world together, growing close even as it became apparent that Tai, too, seemed to be running toward insanity much as his father had— the madness seemed to be in his blood...madness sparked by innate magical ability that manifested with stress. Magic too powerful too control, and which too often fried the brain of the unfortunate soul cursed with its power,

Tai grew increasingly powerful, and correspondingly grew also terrifyingly psychotic. Dunda stayed with his beloved even as he watched in horror as he was pulled apart by the magic inside of him— flesh and mind and soul restructured by some unknown rules to something More: More than what he'd been, More than what was assumed was possible...

Dead and alive, male and female, mad and sane and all shades between and beyond, Tai crossed the threshold between states of being and did not accept or reject any of them. He holds the doorway between them all open and exists there in the limbo where all things meet, change, become and be.



Currently, Taisha is more or less in control of his magic (assisted occasionally by limiters embedded in jewelry or Dunda's steadying presence) and he's sane enough for practical purposes. Nevertheless, Tai still bears the deep mental scars of his father's abuse and his fight for his own mind; he is selfish, arrogant, egocentric, short-tempered and violent, both unable to fully experience emotion and unwilling to even try. He is cruel even—or especially— to those that he "cares" for, and he winds himself in a psychopath's superficial charm.

Occasionally, though, Taisha can be kind— very kind, surprisingly kind— to those with whom he can identify. He reacts extremely violently toward bullies, abusers, and those who oppress the people who rely on them; he has no patience with those who hurt children, for example, because of his own past experiences.

Tai was born male; it was his magical nature that changed him physically to something beyond the binary. Male pronouns are still typically applied to him.
The scars on his face were self-inflicted.
