Cerbera odollam - Has many common names throughout the regions where it grows, including names such as othalanga maram, kattu arali, samanta, tangena, pong-pong, buta-buta, and gon kaduru in areas of India, to southeast Asia, Madagascar and Sri Lanka. The plant is apart of the same family as Oleander, which attributes to their similar appearance. The poison is highly toxic, attacking the calcium ion channels in the heart muscles, causing heart beat disruptions which is often times fatal. It is difficult to detect Cerbera poisoning in the body during autopsy, so it has been used commonly in murders and suicides in Southeast Asia and India.
