About
(Will eventually get a paintie matching her lore, bear with me!)
Acapella was one of the Dutch Angels that lived in Paradise, prior to the great conflict. At this time, she was known as Cantata, and would often be seen playing the harp as she sang.
When conflict broke out, Cantata's loyalty to Paradise led her to betray it. Assured that introducing chaos would only make Paradise more wonderful by comparison, she assisted the Ancient One and her fellow dragons in the creation of the Abyss.
She had expected to be welcomed home to Paradise with open arms, and, when that was not the case, began to panic and lash out. As her muzzle ring began to break and fade, she had to be dragged, kicking and screaming, from Paradise to the Aether.
As she shrieked and screeched for forgiveness, she tore up the inside of her throat, making her once beautiful singing voice little more than a hoarse whisper. Once in Aether, she was unable to interact with physical objects, leaving her unable to play her beloved instrument ever again. Over time, she forgot how to play it entirely.
Her markings had washed away with her muzzle ring, believed to be a result of her refusal to leave Paradise, and the magic that took the rings away taking more markings the longer she stood her ground. The streaks of sheet music that had run down her back were no more, and the musical notes that had dotted her pelt faded into nothing.
Cantata spent a painfully long time mourning the loss of her home. She lingered in the Aether, doing very little of anything, for many years.
Slowly, as the pain of her loss ebbed away, Cantata began to sing again. She was rusty, but once her throat had healed, her beautiful voice gradually returned. Yet still she refused to even consider taking up the harp again, the music reminding her painfully of what she lost when instinct betrayed her.
When she finally accepted her new life, and new role as a guardian of Terra, she chose herself a new name; Acapella, to reflect her new, unaccompanied singing style. She also allowed herself to be reborn, and returned her sheet music markings to her coat, though in a less busy form than before. Her streaks down her back remained, but the number and size of notes peppering her pelt were reduced.
Her muzzle ring, of course, did not return. When creating her new form, she decided specifically against any form of muzzle marking, fearing that any ring-like pattern would remind her too much of Paradise.
Now, she wanders the Aether, her songs calling for any wayward or mourning dragons to join her, singing together as a kind of coping mechanism. She can often be seen being tailed by at least a few sorrowful dragons, all joined in song, trying to forget their troubles.
