Kanosak (gold in Inuit) was part of a arctic fox Eskimo tribe. When he couldn't hunt well enough for his tribe, he was thrown out. In the artic, they don't have the extra resources to take care of someone who can't work.
He was found, nearly froze, by Tonrar (spirit in Inuit), a polar bear in another tribe who breeds eskimo dogs. He took him in and Kano now helps Tonrar raise dogs while being taught to hunt and fish.
Kano wasn't very found of dogs, but one young pup took a liking to him. When he gives up on trying to chase him away from him, he names him Keelut, after an evil earth spirit,
