About
My name is Akiva, and I’m searching for a new home.
My story isn’t the happiest, but I’m still here, still fighting. Still getting used to my scales…
I was born a Hyena, within a village on the pacific coast. Holtus, it was called, and there I lived with my friends and family. My life was good and I was happy, never giving a thought to what lay beyond the shores where I played, the smiles of those I loved.
Good things never last though it seems, as one day, my world was shattered. Mercenaries, hired killers, came to our village and slaughtered my family all save one in their sleep. My little sister and I huddled together, terrified, in another room, hoping against hope that we’d not be noticed, and powerless to save the others.
They thought they’d finished the job when they set our house ablaze, but my sister and I managed to escape. Devastated and scared, we fled, leaving Holtus behind forever and wondering how we could feed ourselves, how to avoid our pursuers.
For months, I trained myself, grew stronger, and earned the money to buy food day in, and day out. Eventually I had put enough away to buy us each a potion, an oddity that we knew would change us so irreversibly that no one would ever find us. How could they? Our new scales and horns felt like cloaks hiding us from unfriendly eyes, and we grew too complacent.
One day, five months after we’d left our home and our past, they found us again. I was strong now, and I fought them, tried to hold them back, tried to save her.
My precious sister… they killed her, and in a surge of rage, I massacred them all.
But now I was alone, and deep in grief. The one person I tried to protect was taken from me, and I was left with so many questions. Why was my family targeted? Had they done something terrible, something secret, something so awful that an organization hired people to kill us?
I don’t know, but I know that I will find these answers, mark my words. In the meantime, there’s only one thing I want.
