Oswald may not know much about many things, but he knows a lot about plants, and a lot about saying nice things to people, and keeping his mouth shut if he doesn't know what he's talking about. He comes off as a bit ignorant, but he may in fact be very wise.

Oswald met Blue one day when they were both out exploring. Blue was looking for resources for the "family" back home, and Oswald was looking for more seeds to add to his collection. They struck up a conversation about flowers and trees and life and meadows, and Blue decided that having Oswald around would be nice. Oswald believed having Blue around would also be nice, so the two prefer to stay near to each other, which is why Oswald joined the family.
Oswald likes to be around Castle most of the time, but he usually doesn't stay for long; he doesn't know when Castle might suddenly get angry, and he would prefer not to accidentally get hurt when it happens.
Oswald... has trouble tolerating Icarus. Icarus has an attitude and personality that clashes rather than melds with Oswald's own attitude and personality, and that means that the two often are at ends with each other. Oswald prefers to give Icarus his space for the benefit of them both.
Oswald likes to go exploring with Siren. Neither of them need to talk in order to go off into a meadow and search for flowers and seeds together. Occasionally, one might even make a small flower crown for the other. They are good friends.
Oswald errs on the edge of annoyance towards Edgar. Through no fault of Edgar's own, the magpie always feels the need to talk, even when not necessary. Oswald, who prefers to say things of quality, rather than quantity, does not particularly enjoy the conversations he and Edgar have together because of this. Even so, he does not mind too awfully much, so long as he doesn't have to listen for too long.

Oswald likes Sun, and Sun seems to care at least a little bit for Oswald. As a foal, Oswald was given the fairy in order to have a light at night. Although he appreciated the sentiment, he preferred to let the little fairy leave the cage whenever possible. In turn, Sun grew to appreciate Oswald, who understood his desire for freedom, while simultaneously realizing that the cage did not have to be permanent, and could instead act as a barrier against outside elements. Often, Sun likes to go on walks with Oswald, but instead of going free from the cage, he prefers to remain inside the bars, safe from outside elements that could otherwise harm him.
