Long ago, before Midas was cursed, he was a proud, yet selfless, and intelligent wickerbeast. He lived under a different name, and wandered lands, and fought monsters, and was quite happy.
He had many adventures, and lived quite an interesting life, however one day, during his travels, he happened upon a faery grove, and was welcomed to a feast there. Having seen many fair sights during his travels, and having learned many tales of creatures such as faeries, Midas attempted to politely turn down the offer.
However, insulted by the spurnings of their invitation, the faery lord presiding there cursed Midas, his lack of greed, now to become a wellspring of it.
A craving for whatever riches and goods he could obtain.
A need so strong it would destroy his very core. He tried to resist, going so far as to bury himself in a cave, alone, but his curse gave him a godly strength, and though the wickerbeast went slightly insane trying to contain himself, in the end, he failed, digging and clawing his way through the walls of rock to freedom.
He took on the new name, Midas, and now wanders the lands as he once did, still fighting, but this time, he threatens to destroy anything in his path, unless it can give him sufficient offerings, his madness driven him to believe he is a god. He hoards whatever riches he can, often eating much of them in an attempt to fill his never-ending greed.
