Alistair is the Queen's closest confidant and servant, but he was not always tied to royalty. Born into poverty, Alistair devoured every book he could desperate to move up in the world. He worked hard, travelling and studying. Eventually, he came upon a beast which brought him treasures, and subsequently fame.
With his famous beast Alistair was finally able to secure a place within the palace. He immediately fell for the princess. She was cold to him (and still is) but considers him a friend. When she was made Queen he was kept by her side, He continued to travel with his beast bringing back treasure, but also helps the queen care for her vast menagerie.
Alistair and the Queen are in love, but she knows she can never marry him. A queen must marry for her people. Alistair knows their romance has an expiration date, but he'll stay by her side long after. He will do anything to serve his Queen, even when she is no longer his alone.
