About
Paintie, species and design made by Hatty.
Just saving this here for the forum wipe.
All written below this was written by Hatty. About the Lumeys, rules, lore etc.
Lumeys
The current species is a fantasy based wooly reptile creature called the Lumey.
Lumey's are special because of their eggs and wool. The wool covers the ears/head, and backfluff, they also have two tails. One tail is fluffy, like a rabbit's tail, and the other is based on a reptilian lanky tail. They can have multiple patterns, and are based on things they enjoy the most. For example, one who enjoys strawberries, would be a mix of reds, and fruity colours.
Rules
*They are 100% designed to be painties for shifties, but are also able to just be character references if you want them for that instead.
*Please credit me as the designer of this species, but you are free to make minor edits (such as eye color, or a tail color, etc., but PLEASE keep them as MINOR edits, if you end up changing other things, such as face etc., then it is not my base anymore, and I don't approve, sorry!
Lumeys are a just for fun species and you are free to make your own backstory on your own Lumey.
I appreciate everyone who enjoys my design and creature. I love it when people upload them and please feel free to ping me if you upload yours!
Selling or trading
If for any reason you are not interested in owning your lumey anymore, you may sell or trade the lumey for whatever you paid for it but not more. You may also trade lumeys with people! I cannot give refunds sorry!
Lore
Lumeys are a creature of a mixed variety. They are a fantasy mammal, who is also part reptile. - *(How does that work? I said it's fantasy. Get with it, haha. :P )
Lumeys are known for two things, their eggs, and their wool.
When their wool grows to a certain length, their bodies begin to overheat, so they rub against thorns and spikes to get rid of access as much as possible. The wool is highly valued, (henced Loom in the name) and is harvested off these spikes, it can be used to make very warm outfits, as it is very soft, but it can melt like a fruit at high temperatures so there are not many sales in the tropics. You would also not put a hot needle through them! They are casual clothes for fall, spring and winter.
Lumeys favour eating fruit, however they are known to (rarely) eat meat when in dire circumstances. They prefer sweeter things, and are picky when it comes to bitter fruits. However they will eat anything. The fruit eaten in abundance prior to laying an egg by the mother will determine the colours of the Lumey hatched. These can be mixed by different fruits or vegetables, and even meats, depending on how much of a certain thing the mother has eaten before laying an egg.
Lumeys roam free on their hind legs, never all four, and are not used in farms such as chickens or ducks. They can be known to pull carriages, and plows though, as they are happy racers and are very competitive creatures. However, they will only do so on their own will, and can be feisty when told what to do. They do not mind living side by side with humans as a companion, but it is unlikely that a human will ever see them, so they are rare to see in public's eye.
Making a bond with a Lumey is not difficult but not easy, as they have a high intelligence and are independent. They travel in pairs, but not packs. During the winter, the Lumey survives off ice berries, and if need be, they will eat smaller creatures to fill their diet.
Once a Lumey hatches and is of-age to start producing their wool, they have to eat a specific insect to start the wool creation process. They despise the taste of cankerworms, so they are known to swallow them quickly. Their bodies do not digest the insect but rather absorbs it and sends its silk making process to the Lumey's cells. Once the first wool creation process has begun, it never stops growing which is why they must rub against things to keep themselves short.
A rare species of Lumey has wings, and you can often see them racing other ground Lumeys to show off during mating rituals. It also helps them get the highest berries in the trees, so they are very well established and lay their eggs high above the ground, where it's often hard to reach them. Another type of Lumey may have small or large horns, these are not rare, and appear to be just uncommon. In order to have a horned hatchling, one of the parents must have horns.
Lumeys fight with their scaley tails, and their talons on their front feet, they use their bigger talon on their separated toe to scratch predators. Lumeys with horns tend to use those as well, though their paws on their front are for grabbing fruit and just for show. The second tail, which is covered in wool, is used to fan them off in the heat, but also to flip at insects that try to land on them.
(In creation process: Lumeys can often have a lace design on their wool and scales due to the connection with looms and crafting, but they do not always!)
