About
Raechi found the loose floorboard at seven in the morning while dancing around the front room to the tune of the warbler next door. She stumbled over it and slammed into a table with a disconcerting amount of flowerpots with a light “oof”. She just managed to catch the pot with the Strange Celery sprout peeking out of it before it went teetering over the edge. She could already feel the bruise developing at her hipbone.
She’d have to see if she could get a construction worker around town to fix that floorboard for her. She was enough of an endangerment to herself on her lonesome; she didn’t need any help.
The warbler warbled away and she tiptoed over that precarious warped board to the teapot on the hearth – something her mother had imported from Tigereye Peak as a going away present when she’d first moved out. The lid came off with a satisfying clank and she sniffed at it. This blend always reminded her of fall and winter, earthy and spicy, and the warm dampness it left on her nose and whiskers was one of her favorite morning rituals.
She pawed blindly at the mantel, fumbling past empty jars and filled bottles of soothing lotion and cooling salve, her spare eyeglasses, and a pestle and mortar until she felt the worn wood of her favorite mug.
Gentle, relaxed mornings like this, filled with good hot tea and the next door neighbor’s songs were always the best. Of course, noons spent talking with friends and acquaintances, or afternoons out exploring the woods with Nox or working on her medicine recipes or tending her little garden were also rather enjoyable…as were evenings of stargazing with Babbette and writing by candlelight and more tea and FINALLY settling into bed…
In general, days were pretty good, filled with fun and laughter, and Raechi wouldn’t have it any other way.
