It's not how the one at work functions.
You have to specifically tell it to save to the PC, either when you save the file or by telling it to make local copies of existing files. Default is cloud only.
Cloud is just computer someone else owns. So you gotta ask yourself why are they letting you use it for free, and how much does that cost you later.
People also need to think how the other side looks at it, how much are they individually worth to a company like MS, and how much MS will care if they have any reason to cut you loose. To you it's your files or trying to wrestle with automated 'help' if your account goes away, to them it's a database entry that went away.
Once upon a time i gave onedrive a try and it synched my documents with my empty OneDrive by deleting all my local documents ..... -.-
File > Options > Save, you can check “Save to Computer by default”
ve done this like four times. It doesn't work. It just switches back to One Drive every time.
There's a pin symbol too. Click that and thereafter the new location is offered by default.
But autosave function no longer works on Microsoft office unless you save to the cloud. That is infuriating.

Except for it resets all the time. Also this is a workaround. The fix is to have MS stop doing this --.

My document > right click > restore default location
It is that simple and no it will not go back to drive as long as you unlog from drive and uninstall it. Period. If it does, you messed up.
Yes it's annoying but it's literally 2 clicks. And for office not autosaving, there is no reason not to but otherwise use something modern like Sheets or 360. Took me 5s a year ago and never one drive ever came back.

It's no different than saving to documents. Also you can just turn on a backup and it'll do the same for your documents folder.... But essentially your one drive folder is still local as well it just also backs it up to the cloud.
If you see the little green check mark that means it's saved locally.
If you save it to onedrive, the documents can practically either be accessed by AI or used to train AI.
Did you knowingly agree to either give away your style or skills for "free" backup? (Yes depends on law, enforcement, terms and conditions etc). Why do we have to "air gap" our files?

If I just started earning confetti after not earning, it’s warmup. If I earn lots at once, it’s hot. And when I can’t earn any, it’s a cooldown.
