Charles is intelligent, observant, and usually knows how to fix any problem life throws his way. If he can't fix it, he deals with it and moves on. Sensible and forward-thinking, his personality compliments Briar's more emotional and impulsive approach to most situations.
The two met while Charles was walking alone having recently left his hometown to live his own life. A natural loner, Charles was content with being by himself but was having trouble making any money and finding a place to stay. While exploring his surroundings for items he could trade with locals, he bumped into Briar (or rather, Briar ran right into him and knocked him off his feet) who was scavenging for new animals at the time. The two struck up conversation and .Charles learnt that this over-excited young ferret was also having trouble making ends meet as he was just a beginner in the Animal Husbandry business.
The two agreed to help one another; Briar would allow Charles to share his home while Charles found and sold various items. Charles was at first hesitant on staying in the same house as Briar due to his slight dislike of animals, but soon got used to them being around and even found that he quite liked the smaller ones.
Over time, the roommates forged a strong friendship and what was meant to be a temporary stay became what is looking to be a permanent deal.
However, Charles is still a loner at heart and while he is nice and makes small conversation with the fellow villagers, he finds it difficult to make friends other than Briar and likes to explore alone.
He can become exasperated with Briar's mood swings and rash decisions, but keeps in mind that the ferret is still young. In many ways, Charles sees Briar as a younger brother and tries to guide him as best he can to keep him out of trouble.
