Do you see that bar of your villagers off to the right? It's in alphabetical order of their names, and only ten will actually show. I just went over that limit, so I needed to prioritize which ones I wanted quick access to, and I wanted to customize the order. Putting those letters registers as their names, so it orders them by that.
