Saber's very special treasures!

About

Big Cat no more.

Saber couldn't help but be amazed at Draco as the blacksmith worked repairing the warrior's weapons. He had heard rumors of a new potion being introduced to Olde Foxbury, but he hadn't heard what it could do. This, he surmised, had to be it.

"Hey Draco," Saber called out as the white tiger trotted over, pack loaded with stuff they had scavenged from the outskirts of the village, "I heard Cara used a potion on you. Is this it?"

"It is," Draco said as he looked up, setting the hammer aside, "what do you think of it?"

"I think it's amazing," Saber said, "what is it like having four legs instead of two?"

Draco chuckled softly. "It takes some getting used to. I do miss my wings some times, but, other than that, I can carry more stuff on my back."

That was something Saber had never thought of and they nodded. "Thanks for the info, I need to go see Cara."

"As far as I know she is brewing more potions," Draco called out.

Saber nodded again as he hurried to where the alchemist worked. They knocked, waiting for her to answer.

When the door opened, they wrinkled their nose at the smell. "Oh, hey, Cara. Do you have any more of those changing potions?"

"So you want your form changed, too?" the Caracal cat asked, "are you sure?"

"I just talked with Draco and, yeah, I'm sure," Saber said.

"Well, I have a batch that's ready and another that's almost ready," she said, moving inside.

The white tiger followed her in, closing the door behind them. They took the offered potion, setting their pack down. They wrinkled their nose again at the stench before downing the liquid, gasping at how horrid it tasted.

Though, that was the least of their concern as they felt their body tingling, shifting, stretching in ways it shouldn't. When it was all over, Saber opened their eyes, looking down and behind, nearly loosing their balance.

"It'll take some time to get used to walking on four legs instead of two," Cara said, "so take it easy for a while. Maybe let someone else go exploring for you."

"Nah," Saber said, "this shouldn't be too hard to get used to. They leaned down to retrieve their pack, nearly falling over in the process.

"Like I said, take it easy and give yourself time to adjust to the changes," Cara said.

Saber nodded, slinging their pack over their back. "Thanks," he said, "if there's anything you need, let me know and I'll see what I can do to help."

"No need to repay me," Cara said with a gentle smile, "now, if you'll excuse me, I have another potion that should be ready."

Nodding again, Saber left, finding it extremely hard to walk. However, they made it back to their house and practiced since, naturally, practice always made perfect.

Now exploring should be a lot easier than it had been, let alone bringing everything back.

Quagga? What Quagga.

After the shift in the village, Saber had decided that, not only would they explore when needed but also they would take up the treasured art of healing. After all, their hooves tended to get a bit sore after so much exploring. That and the rampant sickness that sometimes went through the village.

It was one of those cases where rumors had spread through the village that there were treasure to be found. Naturally everyone decided that it would be in their best interest to abandon their trades for the moment, except Saber since someone usually came back with some illness or other, and her fellow former draconian turned saggitari, Draco. He had decided to take up crafting and soon found some recipes for things that might help the villagers as they searched the area.

Working as fast as she could, Saber didn't notice when someone had left behind a potion after taking one of hers to cure their illness. Having developed a fever of her own she blearily reached over and uncorked the bottle. It smelled funny but, not thinking she drank anyway. Soon she began to sway, her body tingling. This wasn't right.

She could feel her entire body shift, realigning itself, morphing into something that was once a more familiar form than walking on four legs.

Opening her eyes, her fever gone, she stared at the long claws and the azure fur. Hurrying to the mirror she blinked. "Ok, I've gone from being a sabertooth to a saggitari and now . . . ?"

Returning to her bench she tried to see what label, if any, was on the bottle. She could barely make out the scrawl near the bottom.

"Leodon . . . " she mused aloud, "interesting. I'll have to let everyone know to keep their eyes peeled for any recipe for this to give to Frost."

Humming to herself, the sound more like a purr, she continued making potions as fast as she could, hoping the flurry of exploring would die down enough she could restock her wares for the next influx of illnesses.
