they started fucking with their source codes and files, as a form of self-harm, and their system updates would repair the damage mostly. there'd be a file or so that wouldn't work, but they were fine.
but eventually, one outburst did too much damage, and left viruses in their code, causing a total shutdown to where their emotional responses are inappropriate and haywire, and their body is completely unable to show anything but viruses and continual blue screening.
