Daikoku was seen as a miracle when they were born. In the small farming town they were raised in, albino children were considered very lucky to the family who carried them. Daikoku's mother picked out the name for them before their birth, which refers to the Japanese God of farmland. When born, Daikoku was seen as a sign that the families harvest would be sufficient for the first time in years. Instead, a massive storm flooded the entire town a year later and swept Daikoku away.
They grew up away from others and never learned to speak. No one knows how they survived on their own from the age of one, but many say good luck surrounds this quiet being. They remain mute but have made up for it with an excellent green thumb and understanding of botany. They are easily scared of others, but content being alone.

Whoa, I love their horns and their little forehead gem thingie! I also really appreciate you mentioning that "many say good luck surrounds [them]", but I can't quite put my finger on why that is right now. Do they say that knowing what happened to Daikoku's town? If not, would they still say that if they found out?
