Daughter of a jarl of a successful petty kingdom Áslaug was used to the life of high nobility. The finest fabrics, most precious of gems, purest of metals, delectable cuisine, the best her father could offer. Until one day when her father was away leading warriors, for a raid from order of the king. A surprise raid from jealous rival jarl attacked the extravagant town who plundered and burnt and slayed all around.
Taken as a captor, and at the merciless hands of the rival jarl who used her as an all around slave to do with whatever strikes his fancy at the time. Desperate for escape she tried at every opportunity to get away, and punished every time she was caught.
Plotting for escape she horded a knives and weapons whenever a feast was held. When mead was sloshed around the table. On a quiet night long after her captors slept she made her move cutting her binds, and keeping herself armed tipping as swiftly as she could manage trying not to wake a soul. Almost getting caught she fought her way until she could gallop away in the dark of the night going as far as her hooves would take her.
Roaming the wilderness day and night, for endless days only to stumble upon Dýrdalir on a cold windy evening. Calling out for help from anyone. The gyðja moved by her story, had nothing but compassion and kindness to offer. The residents sympathetic to her, and try to help her as much as they can. Mistrustful she has a hard time adjusting, but still she holds onto the hope of finding her father one day.
