About
Mount Grace Priory is an English Heritage owned property, and is well known for it's population of stoats. In 2005 the priory's stoats became famous when they starred in a David Attenborough wildlife documentary. They also featured in the landmark Life of Mammals television series.
Mount Grace Priory was founded in 1398 by the hermit-like Carthusian order. They are the best preserved ruins of their kind in the country and together with the surrounding grounds have become a haven for wildlife. The old priory guest-hall was converted into a grand manor house by Thomas Lascelles in 1654 - making it one of the few major buildings constructed in Yorkshire during the time of Cromwell's Commonwealth. It was extended by the wealthy industrialist Sir Lowthian Bell at the turn of the 20th century, and refurbished in the style of the Arts and Crafts movement.
Highlights: Stoats.
Location & Admission: Mount Grace Priory is off the A19 and open 10am to 4pm daily from Thursday to Sunday, inclusive.
Sylvester Fox prefers to be referred to as Sly.
Speaking of sly foxes, Lucas Paakh has started working on William and Sly 3!
