Still dirt, cold stone, light without direction. Then, as the Library sprang up from the cold stone, so too did the rosebed sprout out of the still dirt.

Once, Ebb and Flow had different names now long since lost, were simply veilspun outside of their element, but now they have become something more. They cast off the shackles of mortality, and became the very soul of the humble rosebed, becoming greater than the sum of their parts. As the catacombs needed its librarian, the buds in the dirt needed the fluidity of the raw magic that flowed through the light particles, and so it was that they became that very fluidity.

Children of the fluxating couple rarely have the same scales and blood that more average dragons have, and more often sustain themselves through the flow of magic through an area. They are more likely to settle upon ley lines, mana hotspots, or simply besides places of active magic use. Children who sport the same blooming skin that Ebb has are often drawn to places of rising energy, whilst those who have the evergreen skin of Flow are far more likely to be drawn towards places that are recovering from high energy output. In the same way, those marked with pink runes are likely to be more volatile and energetic, while those with white runes are prone to be calculated and even-tempered.but this too, shall pass.
Unlike the Father, Flow is cool and low-energy, nurturing the struggling or weaker parts of the rosebed. Her dedication is rivaled only by her intellect, knowing precisely where and how to prune certain overcrowded patched to ensure that the whole is allowed to flourish. Unlike the Mother, Ebb is lively and high-energy, always pushing forward and encouraging growth in the mana within the rosebed. Despite his distracted nature, easily flitting from one hobby or task to the next, the rosebed is the only thing that gains his full, erratic attention, be it humming to budding petals or nursing the water into the tangled roots. The magic petaled imprints on his blooming - are always vibrant and shifting from place to place, still as often as he is.

reminds me of the question “if the tree falls in a forest and there is no one to hear it, does it make a sound?” maybe we’re the trees here, falling down under the weight of our struggles, often with no one to bear witness to it, the echo symbolising a hope that even if we’re far apart, we can still hear you and you’re not alone.
