She is the child of a saggitari and a fox; born under unfortunate, mysterious, and unlikely circumstances, she was abandoned by her parents shortly after she was capable of walking, for neither of her parents wanted to care for the unlikely child.
Lost and alone in the world, the kit-foal wandered, nameless and unwanted, until she found her way to the nearby carnival. The ringmaster at the time took pity on the kit-foal, and took her in, giving her the name of Masquerade.
Masquerade lived and grew up happily in the carnival, learning many of the tricks and performances and finding a love for entertaining the masses who attended the performances that the troupe put on.
Eventually, when Masquerade reached adulthood, she was promoted to be the new Ringmaster as the old one grew too old to lead the troupe.
Masquerade may not know where her parents are, but she's honestly happy that they abandoned her. She wouldn't be where she is now otherwise!

J.J. laughs and nods. "We are very punny indeed!" His chuckles die down and a look of curiosity comes to his face. "Carnival? I haven't been to one of those in a few years, such fun it is!"

J.J. rubs the back of his neck. "Well....it eh, stands for 'Just Joking' Haha." He grinned as the little critter seemed to laugh. "this little guy? His name is O'Reilly."
J.J. grins taking off his hat and bowing in return, the little creature apon his head making a mechanical chittering noise, akin to gears yet somehow sounding like laughter. "I go by J.J., it is rather nice to see you again." As he straightened back up he put his cap back on, the critter on his head instantly popping back out of a hole it chewed in it.
