About
There is a mountain covered in dense forests teeming with wildlife, and in this forest some thousands of years ago a tribe of foxes made their home here. Some had ascended over their lifetimes and had become anthropomorphic, while some were still as normal foxes, cared for by those with higher intelligence.
These foxes had been led to a fertile clearing in the forest by a white fox, larger than they had ever seen with nine beautiful tails, who seemed to fade in and out of corporeality as she gracefully glided through the trees.
When the tribe reached the clearing they began to build homes and shops and paths, but most importantly they built a grand shrine in reverence for the fox who led them there.
The crops thrived, the rivers always ran clear and the blessing of the nine-tailed fox stayed ever with them, and their reverence and rituals and festivals at the shrine went on for hundreds of years. However much Japan and the wider world changed, the little kitsune village on the mountain stayed the same.
Chichi was the first white fox seen since the nine-tailed fox faded away, her parents brought her to the temple where she was raised to be a stand-in for the nine-tailed fox, to be present at rituals and to study everything there was to know about the heavily protected kitsune magic the priests and priestesses knew. It is difficult for her to get along with others, having been raised semi-isolated within the temple, however much she wants to, it is forbidden for her to leave.
She has two tails, as she is roughly 200 years old and a lotus symbol tattooed on her forehead.
One night the spirit of the nine-tailed fox visited her and encouraged her to leave the village in the middle of the night, to run free and make friends, to find love and bring her magic out into the world. The priests could not keep her in their possession for eternity, if they did her magic would dwindle and she would die, so in the night the spirit led her through the woods and down the mountain.
Chichi wants to learn about the world, to make friends and experience new things, though she is being pursued by priests from her village.
