Villager: Mason

Mason has no memory of their past, brought about by a traumatic head injury from a monster attack after dark. Mason chose to journey alongside Burr to try to backtrack his history, but ultimately discovered nothing. Remembering only their name & gender identity from before, Mason was at first somewhat bitter about their given lot in life, but meeting Burr who helped him recover from the attack without a lick of compensation helped him realize it didn't matter as long as he had his friends. Eventually, Mason and Burr founded a guild for travelers and merchants in Tigereye Peak known as the Wayfarers alongside another friend called Hush, offering a safe space to rest in the harsh weather conditions for wanderers.

Mason tends to be rather anxious in social settings and hates crowds, often relying on Burr to relay conversations for him, but among trusted friends Mason can be quite talkative about their interests, just needing to recharge socially after a certain amount of time. He's bashful and has a difficult time accepting compliments, but is always grateful for the kindness. Mason is a very determined hyena, and isn't one to give upon discovering how difficult a scenario may be if it's for the greater good. They hate those who are purposefully cruel or destructive to others without warrant, and is a strong proponent for justice. Mason isn't prone to violence as a first measure, but will act in self defense for themselves or their friends.

Mason has short term memory problems and some issues with balance from this past head injury, but on their worse days can use a specialized walking cane that's enchanted not to slip on ice or snow. Mason also tends to stutter, but it's unknown whether this trait was present pre-head injury. They often talk to themselves, finding thinking out loud helpful. Mason also has persistent chronic nightmares from the trauma of the monster attack that left them for dead, but sleeping near another trusted villager seems to help, so Mason often has platonic sleepovers with Burr. Mason will always deny it, but they have a major crush on Hush and is always flustered around him. Burr knows about this crush, and tries to encourages it often. Mason is also highly afraid of the dark, but this can be easily explained as a trauma response.

They're proficient in construction work, often seen building or repairing new structures for various parts of the Wayfarer's territory, be it homes, animal stables, or herbal pots. Mason enjoys adding small detailing to his work, often adding intricate floral carvings to door frames and such similar features. He's a terrible cook, but luckily other villagers are far better at not burning water and are happy to barter a good meal for roof repairs, etc. Mason also has no combat skills beyond doing a decent dodge roll, but hopes to train to be a better fighter someday.
