Here, hybrids between unrelated animals is not normally possible- however, there have been recent advancements in science that led to being able to artificially create hybrid offspring. This is how Ampere got his start as his parents were two animals that couldn't naturally have a kid. Beau, Amp's father, was actually one of the first hybrids made through this program, so they were happy to help him out despite the technology still being experimental and not debuted to the wider public yet. Amp would actually be born with unexplained god-like abilities, he has control over electricity and can even mess with the electrical impulses in the bodies of other people...he is often feared due to it.
Born and raised in southern Louisiana, Amp was brought up on a farm with his parents and his twin sister. Growing up, there was lots of little odd things about Amp that would become apparent to his family over the years. From a very young age and to now even, Amp's mom and sister really struggled with trying to get him to understand concepts like empathy for other people. While he could readily understand to be nice to animals, and in fact loves taking care of the farm animals; he just didn't have that same understanding for people.
What didn't help this at all is the fact Amp often enjoyed following his dad, Beau, to work. This was an awful thing as Beau is actually a for-hire hitman by night. As a responsible parent, Beau did NOT want Amp doing this, but he'd often wriggle his way in anyway like a worm. Amp did end up accidentally seeing some things, and Beau will always be unsettled by the fact Amp either had no reaction or seemed to enjoy whatever was going on. While he could be a bit naughty and sneaky from time to time, Amp was never a huge problem for his parents despite his quirks. He didn't hurt the animals, he did all his chores on time, helped his mom with cooking, picture perfect almost. Amp was more so a problem for people outside of his family; occasionally pushing neighborhood kids off into swamp water, pelting classmate's heads with yeeted pencils, startling the horses when guests were over, so on and so forth. When asked why, he'd usually say he was "just havin' fun!".
It's kind of just been an unspoken acknowledgement in the family that something is a little wrong with Amp, but they still love him regardless. His sister was the one who really understood him and displayed so much empathy and understanding to him. She'd often try to correct his behaviors, educating him on things like right and wrong and empathy. Amp was, and still is, always willing to listen and does actually take in what he's told. Learning from her helps him understand how to look normal better. He and his sister would often swap gifts they received from relatives growing up, she'd give him any Barbie dolls she got and he'd give her the trucks and dinosaurs. Amp has always had more "girly" interests, he has been fascinated with makeup and hair styling ever since he saw his mom do it as a kid. He also loves baking, and was legitimately a cheerleader during high school. Hilariously though, despite being a little prettyboy- Amp does also enjoy things that are more typical of a rural boy, like off-roading and fishing. Oh- and burying the bodies is quite fun...they were accidents!
While he can have an occasional temperamental outburst or two, Amp is usually nothing more than a little sweetheart. He is extremely friendly and kind, very energetic and excitable- he's got that southern hospitality to him. While he's sweet and adorable in demeanor and appearance, he does actually have a habit of saying some very dark and odd things that definitely contrast. He is super social and LOVES people. In fact, he really doesn't like being alone if it can be helped; sometimes, he can be a bit obsessive and stalker-like. Amp's affectionate intentions sometimes drift into violence, such as squeezing a little too hard during hugs. His severe clinginess often leans into extreme jealousy...Fortunately, that hasn't scared away his current boyfriend, Poly, yet. In fact, Poly is head over heels for Amp.
