Drowsy is an ageless entity that would be best described as a forest spirit. Long, long ago, they were nothingness, a mere idea that lived amongst the mycelium beneath the forest floor. They were an amorphous mass of shadow and eyes, overseeing the progression of life throughout the forest. When mortal society industrialized and began encroaching on the forest, the spirit manifested above ground in a more physical form to see what the forest was chattering about. They had long coveted the sleek form of the deer that pranced over the earth they had once inhabited, and chose a similar body. However, given their inexperience with inhabiting a mortal form, they were incapable of keeping the form together fully.

They were initially non-too-pleased about the changes to their forest home. They found the modern houses being built on the edge of the woods to be ugly eyesores that interrupted the natural beauty of the landscape. The loud vehicles by which the mortals traversed the land burned their nose with their scent and hurt their ears with their rumbling. Some ill-mannered mortals even began littering in their domain, a practice they quickly put a stop to. Needless to say, they garnered a reputation of being a terrifying demon of the woods; although they never directly harmed anyone, they did their level best to scare the daylights out of disrespectful trespassers. Most mortals chose to leave that particular stretch of wilderness alone after enough stories of the resident spooky deer spread throughout the nearby town.

Eventually, though, the tales of their reign of terror faded into obscurity, and a housing development company came in and bulldozed their rapidly shrinking forest home. In an effort to save their little shroom friends, Drowsy absorbed what little was left of the forest's mycelium network into their body, resulting in mushrooms beginning to sprout from various parts of their body, an ever-present reminder that they are not quite what they seem. The mycelium also acts as a central nervous system, allowing them to pull their mortal deer form into more of a semblance of order, and pass as a relatively 'normal' entity. With nothing left of their home, they decided to infiltrate mortal society as a seemingly normal deer. However, though they are able to appear mostly deer-like, most can tell that they aren't exactly a deer. Deer generally don't have that many eyes, for one. They're not a deer, a not-deer.
