The 'officer class' is one of the core classes that a hive produces. They are distantly related to mages in function - in that they have mild magical ability and a more intellectually oriented mind - but the officer class is intended for administrative and command positions.
What separates officers from other tarspawn is their unique psychic abilities - they can force compliance from lower ranking units as well as other classes. The highest ranking officer (the leader) of the hive also uses their psychic abilities to mold the class blueprints into ones more specifically adapted to the region.
Personalitywise an officer tends toward seriousness, lack of humor and independence. They do not enjoy gathering together and maintain a strict ranking among themselves based on the power of their psychic abilities.
A favored pastime is reading or intellectual games.

Ydrus is a low-ranking officer. This means he is psychically lackluster and struggles to maintain compulsive control over most tarspawn. However, he makes up for it by being forceful in personality and orders people around simply by yelling at them. He is in charge of this locality's crafting.
The two small messenger-mages that flit around him are called Up and Don. They tend to forget which name belongs to who, and both come when called by either. Or if not called. They have yet to say anything other than 'PI PI PIP'. Their job is supposed to be Ydrus' personal assistants, but for now they are purely for stress relief.
