About
Name: Jumanji Mozambique Morockapi
Nicknames: Juju
Species: Okapi
Occupation: Herbalist/ Sangoma-in-training of the Banzulu tribe
Age: 20
Raised in a tribal village by a single mother with dreams of curing those afflicted by disease after the passing of his father and younger sister, Jumanji studies the field of herbalism and spends his time tending to medicinal herbs on a daily basis so that they may one day be used by doctors in their fight against disease. Because of this, he was chosen as the most worthy successor to his tribe's Sangoma (traditional healer).
Inspiration for Jumanji:
I chose to make Jumanji an okapi because I am a sucker for unusual animals. With an antelope body and zebra striped legs you would think it would be closely related to zebras and antelope right?
Nope, they are actually closely related to giraffes. Talk about an identity crisis x3
I decided to base his origin on tribal Africa, primarily the tribal healers known as Sangomas, due to his species and career choice. Sangomas use herbs and other traditional methods to cure disease.
The name of his tribe, Banzulu, is a combination of the words Bantu and Zulu, both names of ethnic groups in Africa. The Bantus are 300-600 ethnic groups of people that make up a majority of the Pygmy tribe of Central Africa and are the source of 4 out of 5 official languages in the Democratic Republic of Congo alone. The DRC and Central Africa is also the Okapi's natural habitat. The Zulu tribe is one of the ethnic groups that make up the Bantu people stated above and is probably one of the more well known tribes of Africa due to their bright beads, baskets and carvings and is the largest ethnic group in South Africa to date.
Sorry it's long, but if you made it this far it must've been interesting x3
