About

Silas is the very First African Nile Equid, a species created by me. He moved here from CS.

Info about ANE's:

THESE ARE NOT KELPIES. please do not call them that!

Behavior

The behavior of the African Nile Equids are similar to horses in the fact that they live in herds of one dominant Stallion , a lead mare and several mares and foals. When the Young Colts turn 18 months, they are chased out of the herd to start their own. Then they must find their own claim of territory and defend it. When Breeding season comes, the Stallions will fight for mares. They will flash their bright scales to warn off rival males and if a fight breaks out, they will headbutt and use their Crocodile like teeth and sharp, heavy hooves. The foals stay around their mothers for the first 5 months before they begin to venture a little, but never leaving the herd. These animals love to swim and are as home in the water as they are on land. In the water, they not only use their legs and hooves to swim, but they can also swim like Crocodiles and will often hunt from the water. Like their namesake, ANE's can slow down their heartbeat to e able to stay submerged under water for up to an hour before taking another breath. They can make any horse sound as well as the hisses, roars and growls of a crocodile.

Background / History
African Nile Equids are a very rare and almost extinct prehistoric horse species. Thought to be a mix of Nile Crocodile, ram and draft horse, thy can grow to be as tall as 24hh which is bigger than most drafts. They are found in any natural horse color and pattern and their scales are un-naturall in color. The Males, being brighter in their scale color than the female, show their dominance with how brightly colored their scales are. The brighter the color, the more dominate the Equid, male or female. There have been instances of brighter colored females and dull colored males.

They have sharp teeth like crocodiles and apparently eat both meat and plants. The males feature curled ram horns while the females do not usually have horns, as it is a very rare mutation. The males are usually rougher in temperament than the females.

Diet

The ANE's are Omnivores...meaning they eat anything...
Their diet consists of grasses and anything they can catch...including the big game of the Savannah. They will prey on anything from monkeys to zebra and wildebeest. They will also attack and kill Crocodiles if threatened. and yes......they can indeed run faster than you....so please be careful when near them. They tend to bite first and then see if you're friendly.

Homeland
They come from the wilds of the African Savannah and are rarely tamed.
