About

species and paintie by Lunacia ! though the thread was wiped...

The gods each blessed me with a small piece of each of them. They were all in me; at least a little bit, anyway. Maybe that is why I could see myself in all of them. Or I'm just crazy. I don't know.

My name is Vicix. My story isn't the most glorious one... actually, it's kind of terrible. I wasn't exactly the best child, and ended up getting myself lost, away from others of my species. I was found by a feline - a lioness, I believe she was - found me, and took me in, even though she had her own offspring to worry about. I should've appreciated her.

I had the most beautiful sisters. Their fur shimmered rose-gold in the sun, and they had eyes redder than the deepest rubies. My brothers were very handsome as well, but my sisters outdid them. All six of them got strawberry blonde coats from our mother, and she taught them to take good care of their lovely pelts. Of course, I stood out, because of my purple color.

The day some young new male lions came to the pride we lived in was probably the worst day. They started off by going after the oldest male, my adoptive father. He never really accepted me, but he was my only father figure, as far as I remembered. We all stood there helpless as we watched the invaders kill him. And then his brothers. Then they turned around and looked at my adolescent brothers. They either killed them or chased them away, as well as the other teenage males. While the invaders were busy, my mother turned to face me, a pleading look in her eyes. In that moment, my heart shattered into a million pieces. I knew what she wanted me to do. I turned and ran, as fast as my limbs would take me, knowing that I was next, no matter who I was. Who was I kidding, to think that they would keep me there? They didn't know what I was. They wouldn't keep me there, just for the sake of it. They'd treat me like another rival.

I couldn't find a new lion pride for the life of me. When I went to sleep at night, all I saw in my dreams was the bloodshed and horror. Not only was I different, but I was traumatized. Broken. I had lost so much family in one day. How could that happen to me? To anyone? Should I have stayed behind and protected them? I had so many questions, and the more I tried to find the answers, the more I ended up hurting myself.

Then they found me. Two of the four invaders found me; they had followed my scent trail, that I so carelessly left behind. They still had blood on their manes and paws. I was paralyzed in fear. They approached me slowly, and circled around me. I blacked out.

I woke up far away, in the same environment of my early childhood. I saw others of my species. I felt so overjoyed, I didn't know what to do at first. When I approached them, I got the disappointment of my life. They wouldn't look at me in the eyes. They called me a traitorous fool, a failure, and they said I was insane to try to come back. I tried to explain that I didn't know what I was doing, and that all I wanted was a family. I was laughed at or ignored.

I was determined to gain the respect of my people. I brought up the idea of gaining their trust, so I taught those who were interested the ways of the lion. I told them stories, taught them what it means to be a lion. I showed them the bravery, the values of teamwork, and the values of a close-knit group. Soon enough, I had a family again; some of those family members were my actual family.
