Valais Acker | He/Him | Spectral Bat | Werewolf/Altered | 43
In the middle of nowhere, a dingy little farmhouse amidst rolling fields of farmland, vacant of all other life. The only things out here, Valais and his parents. Homeschooled, his only idea of the world growing up came from what his parents told him about it. Here, certain people train their entire lives to prepare themselves for the art of strain hunting, in other words hunting down supernatural entities like demons and this place's jailers. To face a jailer in combat is unbelievably challenging for a number of reasons, and as such the level of training required is enormous. As such, families pass down the tradition, and that's the case with Val's parents and himself. Starting his training at only seven years old, Val's first experiences with supernatural entities began young
Anything his parents asked, Val would do immediately. Unfortunately, bad things would happen to him if he disobeyed even slightly. His parents would constantly hammer in how big of a task hunting jailers is into Val's head, to a point where he began to severely fear supernatural entities in general. They taught him that certain entities here are able to mimic regular humans, and this set off a lifelong distrust of other people in Val. His world very quickly became dominated by fear.
The time would finally come when his parents thought he was ready to fight a real jailer on his own, and they threw him out in the dark of the night to do so. He ended up being so mortified at the first sight of a real jailer that something odd occurred with him. Val managed to blast volts of electricity out of his fur, which melted the jailer upon contact. This is how Val and his parents found out he's something known as "altered", meaning something is wrong with his soul that gives him strange and unique abilities. His electricity has a holy effect to it that decimates any supernatural entity. Val's parents were utterly stunned, and from that point on they began to milk Val and his ability dry for their own gain. To make the blasts stronger, his parents would encourage and incite strong emotions in him since that's what gave it its power. This instilled a lifelong inability to control his own emotions in him.
Fortunately, Val would actually be taken away from his abusive parents in his later teen years. He did get readopted by a lonesome old dude, Hemlock. It took lots of time and therapy for Val to finally accept that his parents weren't great and that PERHAPS Hemlock is a better father. No longer being forced to do so, Val was quick to give up demon hunting and went on to instead volunteer at the local church a whole bunch. He eventually would go on to actually work there as a Sunday school teacher, after getting a degree in childhood education, of course.
A very emotional, neurotic dude- Val has a wild temper and can be pretty snarky at times. However, he makes up for this by being such a loyal and devoted person, equally selfless- he's very much a protector of others around him. He's also still a big pushover that will obey virtually any order, therapy was never able to shake that trait out of him. Wildly, for someone who claims they aren't gay- Val actually has a husband! That being
Limbo. How did Val manage to pull the grim fucking reaper? Otherworldly rizz. They are actual soulmates, their souls being destined to be together in all their iterations, this life being no different. Together, they have an adoptive son,
Leto. Val is normally a very tired dude from age, dystrophy, and extensive injury, but he does absolutely break his back working to earn enough money to support both Leto and Limbo. Val enjoys hacking and hanging out with rats in his (extremely limited) free time.
