Think that's where my head goes too; not having to try and understand what it says, and just enjoying how the characters are shaped and flow on the cards themselves. Plus, it's not something you stare at every day, so it's something different for once xD
I think I started collecting a bit for the same reason, though mostly because Pastel now lives with me, and he was deep into collecting the newer sets. I still have my complete collections of the first 3 sets ever released, and now have been kinda looking into trying to complete some of the older sets too.... Though, I may not seeing how they're all classed as "Vintage" now, and some of the raw cards are stupid expensive xD I don't think I really have a favorite artist or anything; I just like seeing all of the slots filled from their default numbered set order.
No problem~! Some of the sets are still scalped some... but they're a lot cheaper than anything in English. You might be stuck only ordering product online, but never know... might find a close by shop that sells packs and boxes too~!
If you're trying to make a kind of investment for money cards... Every card is a LOT cheaper than the English ones... But if you're only trying to collect them to look at the nice and shiny art, and to fill out binder pages, than Japanese works fantastically~ ... I personally even kinda feel like the text is a bit of an art of its own too.
