Some Facts about BloodClan
((As there was very little information about how BloodClan was run in the books I have essentially built it from the ground up, this is all purely conjecture.))

– Sometime well before his first appearance in The Darkest Hour Scourge was very paranoid about what would happen to his clan after his death. He decided to pick an heir that he would be able to keep near him and have full control over, so that even after he died BloodClan would still be strong and maintained to his standard.
– Females in BloodClan tended to not hold much power, usually they would be assigned mates to create as many new BloodClan cats as possible, the only exception being Brick who remained part of Scourge’s inner circle with Bone and Sand.
– Outside of the inner circle was Scourge’s guard, who found food for the higher-ranked members of the clan. Much like in the original books everyone else was left to fend for themselves while Scourge and Co. always had enough to eat.
– At six moons of age BloodClan kits had to fight Scourge without his reinforcement claws and if they lasted for a certain amount of time they would be given their true name by Scourge and allowed to find a mentor if they so chose. They would be considered full BloodClan members either way.

Sandshadow
Sandshadow was born as Cinder but she changed it to Sand as Scourge deemed it her “true name”. After being chosen as Scourge’s apprentice she lived with him and her training began. She learned most of her fighting techniques from Bone, while Scourge taught her how to lead.

She was a loyal member of BloodClan until the battle with the Clans. When Scourge died and BloodClan fled she went with them and set herself up as leader for a time, but soon enough, all of her cats died of infections from various wounds. Leaving her with nothing to lead and no reason to stay.

She decided to join RiverClan, who accepted her on the condition she took a warrior name. She became Sandpaw. She was named an apprentice at the same time as a kit named Icepaw. Who because they had been apprenticed together felt they were required to be friends. She told him about her life in Bloodclan but it never deterred him. They became friends after a time and when grilled will begrudgingly admit she hadn’t minded him so much. She had almost appreciated his blind acceptance of her when the rest of her clan walked on eggshells around her.

When she started training she had a hard time adjusting to sheathing her claws in practice fights and fighting tactics which did not involve killing blows proved difficult for her as BloodClan was out to kill, never disarm foes. Hunting prey on land did not take terribly long to figure out but fishing and swimming took quite a lot of work. She spent over a year in RiverClan and during that time earned her warrior name, Sandshadow.

She went on the Great Journey but unfortunately found herself captured by humans along the way and taken to a research facility. In the two years she spent there she was the test subject for a product that would allow pets to “talk” to their owners by sending thoughts to them and reading their human’s thoughts. It was a large government funded facility so fortunately she spent all of the surgeries unconscious, only waking up in her cage with a pounding in her head. Eventually there was a breakthrough and with the aid of a small chip implanted in her brain she could send thoughts to humans and eventually learned English. However, it did not work well, she only could “speak” a few times before experiencing debilitating amounts of pain which would make it difficult for her to do much of anything, even standing on her own. As such she prefers to use it sparingly, but sometimes can’t resist showing off a little and trying to seem unaffected for longer.

She escaped the facility when another experiment killed a scientist and a panic button was pressed which opened all the cages and doors. She eventually wandered until she stumbled upon an anomaly hidden deep in the woods behind the lab. Upon going through it she met Helen Cutter. An expert on all things anomalies, Helen knew which ones are where and where/when each one leads. Sandshadow stayed with her for a time and learned about the anomalies but chose to go her own way. Since then she has spent her time trying to understand the anomalies and going through any she stumbles across, just to see where they lead.
