Map Exploit

Maps have temporarily been disabled due to information about an existing exploit becoming public. They'll be enabled again once this issue has been resolved.

Maps are no longer marked as maps, but any maps you craft or had previously will still exist within your inventory. There is currently no estimated time for a fix.

Unfortunately, we have to take a harsh stance when it comes to intentional exploiting of mechanics like this. Thank you to people who reported the issue and simply moved on. People who may have accidentally used the exploit or otherwise simply done it once or twice out of curiosity need not worry, however. We'll be investigating on case-by-case basis. If you suspect another player of cheating, please report them using the standard report feature.

Update: You can no longer add plunder to your hoard from your inventory. You can still use the convert-all function.

    • what was the exploit?
will this affect the event's end date?

I believe I have done this on FV (not for the event but in general). Imagine you have 10 items you want to use. Using them one by one is tedious. So you open 10 tabs, each with an instance of that item and use each one once. That way you can use them pretty quickly without having to wait for refreshes etc.. It is especially helpful for much larger stacks than 10. I do this on Aywas sometimes, though you can't use it for all stacks. (regenerating items you can, but regular stacks not so much)

Not to nitpick, but I see you said that since we can still collect map pieces, it shouldn't set anyone back too badly, and I have to disagree. Sure it'll be fine to make and use the maps all at once for those users only using them for plunder at this point, but there's still tons of people who need to use them for boat materials, who can't get them outside of the treasure map explorations, (ie charred/waterlogged driftwood, onyx/ivory rope, et c.) and are therefore unable to get up to higher levels of plunder from the front page of the event. By not being able to use maps to get the stuff they need, and having to wait two hours in between gathering of lesser plunder in the meantime, this actually sets things back quite a bit.

This isn't to say we aren't grateful for the time and effort you put into fixing these things, we all definitely are! But I still felt it important to point out that needing to wait to make treasure maps wasn't as small of a deal to some players as it would be to those already with the biggest, baddest boats available.

OH and P.S. (that I think people have mentioned anyway, but here goes) the button to convert all plunder doesn't convert every plunderable item, and has been known to miscount. It might be best to turn off converting *entirely* until these issues are fixed, because doing it one at a time had previously been the only reliable method, and now that's not even an option.

    • Pekoro I also lost a treasure map because my active villager didn't happen to be "set worker", it let me send him on the exploration THEN told me he wasn't set worker.

    • An exploit? 0_o Well, I hope the maps get fixed soon! They were so fun!

    • I accidentally did this exploit once or twice because i didnt notice i hadnt crafted 3 of the same map. once i realized i was like Oh Snap! and ive not done it again. (the only items i got were the waterlogged driftwood and like 2 copper goblets)

    • I just hope I did not do it in error

    • I had no idea there was any kind of exploit. I hope I wasn't accidentally doing it without knowing :x

    • I did not know there was something like this but I hope they can fix it soon I still have a few pets to get

    • oh noes!
I've been storing all the maps to use them on the final week, I think I have used like 3 of them, tops.
If there is no estimated time for a fix, would the event get extended some more?
